There is a dead rat/roadkill near the intersection of 6th and Gore.

    Thank you!

    Thank you.

    Hello,

There is an abundance of Japanese Knotweed growing in Gore Street/Gold Star Park between the walk way and fencing nearest the Fifth Street side. It is very invasive, difficult to remove if allowed to grow, and can be damaging to property.

    Thank you.

The two oak trees outside 5/7 Sixth Street have branches that are now touching the house that need to be cut back. Additionally, these trees have been dropping large branches during recent heavy storms; one required CFD to respond today to the wire being dropped to the roadway.

Finally, we had previously reached out to the city about having the root system cut back from the house in lieu of the trees being removed as they are pushing into the foundation. We have taken steps on our side to guard against damage, but the foundation companies all suggested the roots need to be cut back to avoid further issue.

    Thank you.

This is now the third iteration of these no parking signs around the intersection of Gore and 6th including blocking a marked handicapped spot. Someone complained about them during street cleaning and they have since been renewed for the second time. Verizon has used these spaces exactly zero times in the 3 weeks they have been blocked. Please stop renewing them for companies who are not using them and hold them accountable to do whatever work they are requesting when they request it. The city is supposed to work for residents not third party corporations.

We parked our car in this spot at 11:00 am this morning and this sign was not here. This is yet another example of taped over or written over no parking signs being thrown up with well shy of 24 hours notice to residents and visitors. If this were an emergency that would be one thing, but tree trimming tend to be scheduled days if not weeks in advance. Please give residents better notice in the future or get better control over the use of these signs.

Someone appears to have pulled their couch (?) to the garbage can at the entrance of the Gold Star Mother park on Gore closest to the 5th Street entrance. They tore up the grass from the side walk to the garbage can in the process. Please have this removed especially in the case it has potential for bed bug infestation so near the playground. Thank you!

The intersection of Gore and Sixth had a “no trucks” sign posted prior to the Newport road/sidewalk job. Those signs are now gone and don’t appear to be coming back. I don’t know if that’s intentional or in error, but please have them replaced.

Sixth Street cannot accommodate anything larger than a 2 axle box truck safely. Today Gore was closed and my home office looks out onto Sixth and in the last four hours I’ve seen as many 18-wheelers turn off Gore down Sixth. In each case, the truck is so large that it required use of the oncoming traffic lane and even still narrowly missed hitting parked cars on both sides of the road, forced any vehicles going from Cambridge Street to Gore Street to either pull over or in one case literally reverse back into the intersection of Cambridge and Sixth, and in each instance brushed the active electrical cables.

Sixth Street has a history with large trucks causing power outages and dangerous downed power lines which necessitated the signage in the first place. This is not safe.

When I called Cambridge Police non-emergency to report the instance of cars being forced to reverse into the intersection at Cambridge and Sixth I was told there was no officer available to act as a detail at the road closure and that CPD “has no authority to tell trucks they can’t go down Sixth.” That may be the case now if the signs have been removed but that certainly can’t be the case if it’s posted- that’s like telling residents that CPD has no authority to tell a motorist they can’t go down a one way the wrong way.

    Hello,

I realize the City does not have jurisdiction over aircraft, but is there anything that the City can do to petition the FAA about what seems to be a growing number of helicopters flying circles over East Cambridge for hours at a time, multiple times a day, for weeks at a time?

I filed a complaint with the FAA ombudsman now twice. This particular helicopter takes off from Beverly, circles East Cambridge dozens of times and then leaves. It has been here from 6-8am and then again 3-5pm for the last week and at times flies so low that the plants and trees in our yard shake from the breeze. The noise is obnoxious; at times it sounds like we are in a scene from a war movie with constant rotor thumping flying overhead. I don’t know what they are doing, it doesn’t seem to be affiliated with a news company so I don’t even understand what the purpose of this noise and air pollutant is. It is affecting the quality of life of the residents.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

We had the city arborist and engineer come to our property on Sixth Street a couple of months ago and they were very helpful in addressing our concerns about the sidewalk planted oaks’ root systems potentially pressing into our foundation. While we are still considering our options from the private property owner side, I recently noticed that the tree between 5 and 3 6th Street is not only pressing two of the curb stones out of place into the street (I’ve definitely hit it while parking our car), but it is also now tearing up the roadway/parking space. This isn’t the greatest photo but there is definitely a new bulge in the ground with cracking consistent with the tree as a source.

I don’t know if there is something that can be done to perhaps relocate the tree to the park or somewhere else as it is beautiful and we love having it, but it seems to be growing too large for its current home.

Someone put this sign out on Otis by the corner of Fifth. It expired November 2021 so it’s almost 7 months overdue to be removed. Please enact a policy that ensures these signs are getting properly disposed of or returned to the city.

The recycling pick up truck just came onto 6th street between Gore and Cambridge and picked up one household’s recyclables and started driving off. One of my neighbors who was also on the street yelled out “what about the rest of these?” and the driver responded “I have traffic behind me” and continued on.

The garbage can at the entrance to the Gore Park abutting Sixth Street and the ice rink hasn’t been emptied in weeks and is overflowiing. The other cans around the park similarly seem full and in need of emptying but are not quite as bad with overflowing garbage.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

The new gravel-y style of sidewalk replacement in areas abutting city planted trees are not holding up. The little pebble like pieces are becoming dislodged and the sidewalk is turning almost to a dirt road with uneven and loose footing. This type of repair was done all along Sixth Street from the corner of Cambridge to at least the corner of Hurley and in each instance the same thing is happening. If these are intended to be permanent fixes please reconsider as it does not appear to have any amount of longevity and is causing walking hazards.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

We have noticed since the ongoing construction around East Cambridge began whenever there is substantial moisture generating weather (rain, fog etc) there is an odor of sewerage around city drains and in our basement (note: we have no drains /sump in our basement just the concrete, brick and fieldstone foundation which does occasionally have moisture bleed through). It has been particularly bad over the last several wet and/or rainy days. Is there some kind of blockage or new sewer line malfunction?

    Thank you.

Hello, I posted several months ago about concerns that the large city owned trees on the sidewalk outside our home may be impacting our foundation. The roots have cracked the sidewalks and pushed up one of the slabs and seem to have possibly cracked our foundation. When I posted months ago the city re-directed my request to a sidewalk fix (which they completed) but no one addressed my concerns about the impact the root systems might be having on our home. I’ve left 2 voicemails for the arborist and have not heard back and when I talked to someone at the DPW they suggested I should post here instead.

I would be happy to provide any personal contact information to the city.

    Thank you.
